Colon Care

The colon is a vital organ for maintaining optimal health and wellbeing.  It controls assimilation of food, effective absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream, and the removal of toxins leading to disease. Without a healthy colon, detrimental health issues and disease can occur, eventually leading to chronic or acute illness. Many people have a figurative time bomb in their unclean colons, often without realizing it, with perfect conditions for any number of wasting diseases to develop. This does not happen overnight, however, as diseases can gestate from years of poor dietary habits along with sedentary and stressful lifestyles, while you continue to ignore the warning signs.

When the level of colon care is sufficient, the rest of the body is usually doing pretty well also. When the body is properly breaking down food, and waste is being removed efficiently, these natural functions support the energy requirements of the other body systems (including the immune system) and they can ward off diseases better.

Caring for Your Colon

How does a person take advantage of good colon care for helping to promote wellness and freedom from disease?  It’s important to be knowledgeable of the colon’s needs so to speak. It needs healthy microorganisms for aiding digestion, physical exercise, healthy foods, plenty of water, and a thorough cleansing at least a few times per year can help as well.

Beneficial Bacteria

Healthy microorganisms include beneficial bacteria like the ones found in yogurt and lacto-fermented foods. A few examples of these bacterial strains include acidodolphus, bifobacterium, and rhamnosus. These strains are crucial to a healthy bowel because they aid in food breakdown, enzyme production, and in creating a protective barrier between the bloodstream and toxins. Each of these tasks also supports and aids the body’s immune system. For optimal colon care, make it a habit to eat sugar-free yogurt with at least 1 billion microorganisms per serving. Also, whenever it is necessary to take antibiotic drugs, be sure to consume Probiotics (such as Latero-Flora™) as well. This will replace the good bacteria that will likely be killed off by the antibiotics.

Movement and exercise are keys to maintaining optimal colon care. A sedentary lifestyle promotes slowing of bowel movements and internal cleaning, and may promote constipation. Taking a brisk walk at least four times a week, stretching, or other exercises and activities that get you moving are important components of a healthy lifestyle.

High-Fiber Diet

Healthy foods are important in colon care. A diet rich in whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and other “raw” foods is necessary for good general health. Whole foods are items that have not been processed, refined, or artificially preserved. Diets low in sugar, alcohol, and caffeine are essential for caring not only for the colon, but for the entire body. Consuming between 30 to 40g (grams) of fiber each day is also beneficial for colon care, as it provides material for removing toxic wastes from the body.

Good sources of fiber include:

  • Green, leafy vegetables
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrots
  • Squash
  • Beans
  • Fruits with skins (like apples, berries, and pears)
  • Whole grains containing full portions of bran and germ

To help ensure your daily quota of fiber is being reached, it is sometimes necessary to take a fiber supplement containing no fillers and that is made from all-natural, safe ingredients.  Supplements with ingredients like oat bran, Psyllium husk, flax seeds, fruit pectin, and magnesium are usually safest (in recommended quantities); but chemical laxatives should be avoided as they can be addictive.

Drinking a sufficient amount of water each day is another vital area of colon care. Water is critical for bodily nourishment and for toxins to be continuously flushed from the liver, kidneys, and colon.  Many people consume plenty of liquids throughout the day, but not enough water! A significant difference exists between drinking sodas and drinking water, especially where your overall health is concerned. Drinking sodas or coffee throughout the day dehydrates the body and increases the amount of stress placed on the internal cleansing organs. If you adhere to these types of beverages, it is a good idea to cut your quantity back to one or two drinks per day maximum, and also to increase your water intake to about 64 oz. at the same time. Ideally—and this would make a really good New Year’s resolution—you should try to eliminate these health-negative drinks altogether. The water will help you stay more regular, and will remove waste from your colon more rapidly. You definitely want to avoid situations where toxins reside in the colon for extended periods, as they can leech back into the bloodstream via the intestinal lining and really wreck havoc on your health.

Colon Cleansing for Colon Care

The colon is a vital component of maintaining proper health, and so it makes sense a few times a year for a thorough cleansing to be practiced on this organ. This will allow the colon time to renew and rebuild itself, which will help ward off disease as well. Cleansing the colon can be performed a number of different ways. Utilizing a safe method of cleansing is very important, so adverse effects don’t occur. Safe methods include enemas using purified water, Oxy-Powder®, or herbal colon cleanses that do not contain ingredients like senna or kava kava. Oxy-Powder® just helps the colon perform normally while also encouraging regular bowel movements. If uncertain, discuss the best options with your healthcare provider and make the choice that’s right for you.
